For Gabe's 2nd birthday we decided to keep it pretty tame. Gillian was so brand new it just wouldn't be smart to have her around a bunch of people with such a young immune system. Also, we just didn't think we were going to be able to pull off a big party. So, we invited the grandparents to come help us celebrate our little guy.
Brad's parents came from Devine and my Dad and Tricia came from Sun City. We got some Popeye's chicken and visited with each other. We got Gabe a Cookie Monster chocolate cake and sang Happy Birthday and opened gifts. He got some Thomas the Train cars to add to the set he got for Christmas, some Cookie Monster slippers, and a toy phone. Ms. Maria even remembered his birthday and got him some Hotwheels cars!
I felt pretty badly about not making a bigger deal about his birthday so I had to remind myself that he would likely not remember this event. However, to make it a little worse, after his family party, Brad and Gillian stayed home while I took Gabe to a big birthday bash for his friend, Jazmin. Yes, that's right...on Gabe's birthday, I took him to another kid's birthday party. We celebrated birthdays together last year and Jazmin's mom offered to do it again this year, but we decided we better not. However, Jazmin's mom, Sydnia, added Gabe's name to the welcome birthday sign and made him his own special smash cake. She even made sure everyone sang a separate happy birthday to Gabe as well. Even though it wasn't Gabe's party, she went out of her way to kind of make it like it was. Thanks Sydnia!
All in all, a pretty good day!
