We went to the pediatrician's office for stitches, but she said we would probably be better off going to a dermatological plastic surgeon if we wanted to keep it from scarring too bad. Once there, we were given the option to have it glued right then or schedule a procedure later that day to have Gabe put under anesthesia for some sutures. We opted for the glue since we didn't want to have it be too traumatizing for Gabe or risk putting him under anesthesia for something that, in the grand scheme of things, was really pretty minor. Also, the doctor said that since Gabe is so young his skin will likely heal really well even with the glue. So glue it was!

Gabe was such a trooper for the doctors. He stayed perfectly still and did not cry or whine while they were working on him! There was a topical anestethic applied to his forehead before the work was done which must have been really effective. The glue kind of looks like super glue and I guess is just as sticky. The doctor pushed Gabe's skin together and applied the glue. It looked perfect until the doctor tried to take his fingers away...he had glued himself to Gabe's forehead!!! When we pulled himself free he reopened the cut and had to start again....after pulling dried glue out of the wound with tweezers. Ugh.
Nothing a little ice cream can't fix...

So, Gabe had two rites of passage this week...he got his first stitches and ate his first ice cream cone.
