A longtime friend of mine sent Gabe a Halloween costume, Superman! It was perfect...cape and all.
Halloween was a Monday this past year. We started celebrating the Saturday before by attending a Halloween potluck at a neighbor's house. Every year, one of the families in the neighborhood hosts a Halloween get-together/costume parade in their cul-de-sac. They put up a big screen on the side of their house and show kid-friendly Halloween movies. This year they showed "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and some other Bugs Bunny cartoons. We dressed Gabe up in his Superman costume, met up with another neighbor family and joined the festivities. Gabe (as Superman) ate pizza with the other kids and ran around with his cape blowing in the wind. Once the sun went down he curled right up in Brad's lap to enjoy the show and snooze for a bit. It was a pretty fun night.

The day of Halloween there was a party at school. All the kids in Gabe's class wore their costumes and went Trick-or-treating in the other classrooms.

After the school party we headed home and got ready for the evening's festivities. Brad was going to take Gabe Trick-or-Treating while I stayed home and gave out candy. At the last minute I decided I didn't want to miss Gabe's first trick-or treating experience, so I just set the bowl on the doorstep for kids to help themselves.
We did a little loop around a street behind our house and were pleasantly surprised at how many of our neighbors participated. I was a little worried Gabe would be shy for trick-or-treating, but he picked it up pretty quickly. He seemed to really enjoy it and was so sweet. After a few warm-up houses he gained his confidence and went right up to the door, smiled when the door was answered and held out his pumpkin bucket. When people offered him the bowl to help himself he only took one piece instead of a heaping handful. (This is a risk when you offer someone that age their own pick). We had to thank the people for him, but he always turned around with a sweet smile and a wave goodbye. Man, this kid got some serious loot! His bucket was filled to the brim! Toward the end he was actually putting his own candy in the bowls of the people answering their doors. It was a lot of fun. We probably hit about 15 or so houses. When we got home there was still plenty of candy for me to hand out to the bigger kids as the night wore on. Good times. I know Brad took some pictures of the night...coming soon.
